AI-Understood - Developing AI skills
Artificial Intelligence is transforming education and society, creating new opportunities but also raising ethical, social and educational challenges. However, many teachers and students still lack the knowledge and practical resources needed to understand AI and engage with it critically and responsibly.
AI-Understood addresses this gap by integrating AI literacy into STEM and citizenship education in secondary schools. The project aims to strengthen digital competences, critical thinking, creativity and ethical awareness, while promoting inclusive learning and encouraging girls' participation in STEM.
Through an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach, the project will develop educational videos, practical resources and a guide on why and how to teach AI in schools (WP2). These will be complemented by analog and digital learning boxes and ready-to-use lesson plans (WP3), enabling students to explore AI principles, applications, limitations and societal implications through practical experimentation and collaborative learning.
The resources will be tested in schools to assess their educational relevance and effectiveness. The findings will inform a pedagogical implementation guide for teachers and a policy white paper for educational decision-makers (WP4).
By combining technological understanding, ethical reflection and active citizenship, AI-Understood will develop an innovative, inclusive and transferable educational model. The project will empower teachers and prepare young people not merely to use AI, but to understand, question and responsibly shape an increasingly AI-driven society.
